Coming into the second day of the 49th Walker Cup at The Old Course in St. Andrews, Scotland, the United States knew they had to make up some ground.
In the morning Foursomes Session, they did just that.
The United States won the morning session 3-1 to cut their 7 1/2 to 4 1/2 point deficit to just 8 1/2 to 7 1/2 heading into the ten Sunday Singles matches.
Gordon Sargent, the number one amateur in the world, has led the United States with his 3-0 record. Sargent and Nick Dunlap defeated Connor Graham and Calum Scott 1-up, while Caleb Surratt and Ben James defeated John Gough and Matthew McClean 2&1.
Gough and Scott both went 2-0 yesterday, while Gough won his singles match 6&5 over Dunlap.
Preston Summerhays and Nick Gabrelcik kept the United States momentum going, defeating James Ashfield and Alex Maguire 1-up.
GB&I broke the tie on the final Foursome match, with Liam Nolan and Mark Power defeating North Carolina teammates Austin Greaser and Dylan Menante 4&3.
