Steve Humphrey takes Golfweek Senior Tour Championship lead

LECANTO, FL (November 30, 2016) -- With a 1-over 73 Steve Humphrey has moved in front after the first round of the Golfweek Senior Tour Championship at Black Diamond Ranch. He will carry a slim one-stroke lead into the second round over Mike Arnold and a two shot advantage over Herb Fisher.
The day for Humphrey began with five straight pars before he dropped to 1-over with a 6th hole bogey. However, it didn't take Humphrey's long to rebound as he carded 7th and 9th hole birdies to reach red figures. From their the Senior Porter Cup runner-up seemed to be sailing to the finish until he stumbled with a double-bogey on No. 16.
Arnold, looking for his second Golfweek win of the year after claiming the Senior National Match Play in August, was able to hold things together on a day that resulted in a three birdie and five bogey scorecard.
Herb Fisher and his seven AmateurGolf.com Senior Ranking event point finishes reached 3-over and third place with a three birdie, four bogey, double-bogey round.
The day one top-5 is rounded out by Mark Nickerson and Hal Wright, both whom are 5-over and sharing fourth.
SUPER SENIOR DIVISION
Robert Hess used a 1-over 73 to take the Super Senior Division lead. Hess started his day on the 10th hole and began with back-to-back birdies before cooling off with four bogeys to fall to 2-over. A final hole birdie pushed Hess to 1-over.
The best finish in an AmateurGolf.com Senior Ranking event this year came at the Sunnehanna Senior where he tied for eighth.
Gary Kirwan (+2) is second, in third it is Bev Hargraves (+3), Evan Long (+4) sits in fourth and Bill Engel (+5) is fifth.
LEGENDS DIVISION
Edward Craig shot the round of the day to take a five-stroke lead in the Legends Division. Craig started on the 10th hole and he birdied the first two holes to quickly reach 2-under. From there two bogeys and 14 pars followed.
Michael Budlong (+5) will start Thursday play in second while Walt Martin (+7) is third.
