Southwestern Amateur: Mulvany leads
SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. (June 18, 2013) -- Ryan Mulvany of Reno, Nevada, took advantage of one of the earliest tee times and shot 66 (-4) to take he first round lead. Tied for second are local players Jimmy Kozikowski and Michael Anderson who are one shot back at 67 (-3). They also came out of the morning wave where there were near perfect conditions - pleasant temperatures and light winds.

The second round resumes at 7:30am Wednesday. Upon completion of play, the field will be cut to those players with the lowest sixty scores and ties.

As the highest-ranked amateur golf tournament in the Southwest, the championship attracts the world’s best amateur golfers who will have a rare opportunity to compete on Renegade, which has won international accolades for its scenic beauty and appeal to golfers of varying levels. This 7,412-yard course is also known for its four sets of tees on 16 holes. It has earned a place on Golf Digest’s list of “America’s 100 Greatest Golf Courses.”

Renegade is also home to the $1.6 million Jim Flick Golf Performance Center equipped with the most advanced technology in the industry today, all in one place. Among the center’s capabilities are 3-D motion capture, Doppler radar and four-camera video motion analysis.

ABOUT THE Southwestern Amateur

72-hole stroke play championship for national-level amateurs with a handicap index of 1.4 or better. After 36 holes, the field will be cut to the low 36 and ties. The SWGA Selection Committee will select players to compete based upon exemptions, playing resume and rankings.

The SWGA reserves the right to invite amateurs of national and international reputation, as well as other amateurs "of note", to enter into the tournament. Applicants are urged to submit their entries with golf resumes of accomplishment in major tournaments and other competitive record information.
