Oregon State teammates lead California State Fair Am

After the first round of the California State Fair Amateur, a pair of Oregon State teammates are at the top of the leaderboard. Kyosuke Hara and Carson Barry each had an opening round of 7-under 65 at the Alister MacKenzie course at Haggin Oaks in Sacramento, Calif., to share the first-round lead.
Hara and Barry displayed different feats in getting to 65, each impressive in their own way. Hara went bogey free, and ended his day with back-to-back birdies at Nos. 17 and 18. Barry, meanwhile, had just one bogey, but also threw in a day-ending eagle at the par-5 18th.
Both men enter this point in the summer with some success. Barry, of Eagle, Idaho, won the Idaho Amateur, was a semifinalist at the PNGA Amateur and finished in the top 10 at the Pacific Coast Amateur. Hara, of Corvallis, Ore., defended his title at the Oregon Stroke Play and also reached the third round of the PNGA Amateur.
Behind the two Beavers atop the leaderboard, three men are tied for second at 5 under: Casey Scott, Michael Cliff and Lucas Carper. All are from California.
Defending champion Devon Bling, a UCLA junior, is among the men tied for sixth after a 4-under 68.
