Listen: BOTR Road to Hoylake series debuts with Hagestad, Mouw
William Mouw and Stewart Hagestad
Walker Cup team selections have begun, the Western Amateur is underway and the U.S. Amateur is on the horizon. This is what Ben Adelberg, host of the Back of the Range podcast, calls “The Road to Hoylake.”
As the U.S. Walker Cup team fills out for the Sept. 7-8 matches at Royal Liverpool in Hoylake, England, half the fun is getting to know the players in consideration for a team pick. The Back of the Range podcast is telling those stories, two by two.
As the series debuts, the first episode features a couple of California players who couldn’t be more different in terms of the stage of their careers.
Stewart Hagestad, a 28-year-old mid-amateur, has already secured his spot on the team by being among the top-3 ranked Americans in the World Amateur Golf Ranking. Hagestad, returning from the victorious 2017 team, has some insight to give the up-and-coming players.
As for
William Mouw, the 18-year-old headed to Pepperdine in the fall, team golf experience comes from past turns on the Junior Presidents Cup team and the AJGA’s Wyndham Cup event. Mouw won the California Amateur earlier this summer, a match-play event.
Get a look inside each player’s head (plus some insight on the Western Amateur), as the series debuts.
