Florida Senior Azalea: Doug Hanzel wins by two

PALATKA, FL (March 13, 2016)--Doug Hanzel
(Savannah, GA) broke free of a three-way tie at the
beginning of the final round to win the Florida Senior
Azalea. Hanzel fired a final round, 3-under 67 at the
Palatka Golf Club to win with a score 1-under par.
Doug Snoap (Apopka, FL) finished two strokes
behind at 1-over par. Snoap was able to rebound from
a first round 4-over 74 to shoot an even-par 70 and a
3-under 67.
Hanzel playing in just his second AmateurGolf.com ranking event
of the year picked up his first win of the 2016
season. The 2015 Senior Player-of-the-Year was 2-over
through the first two rounds after a pair of 71's before
his field-best matching 3-under score.
Randy Elliot (Winter Park, FL) and John Fritz
(Charlotte, NC) both struggled on the final day after
being tied for the lead at the start of the day. The duo
each shot 2-over par 72 to tie for third.
Denny Taylor (Gladstone, OR) finished in fifth
place with a three round total of 4-over par.
Legends Division
In the Legends Division Jim Carley (75, 68, 71)
blitzed the field winning by five stokes. Carley finished
4-over par for the tournament.
Brian Sachs (9-over) finished second and William
Liberato (15-over) finished in third place.
ABOUT THE Florida Azalea Senior
54 hole stroke play championship with Senior (ages
55+), Super Senior (ages 64-69), Legends (ages 70-
74) and Super Legends (ages 75+) divisions. Players
will be grouped into six flights by handicap. After 36
holes the Championship flight will
be cut to top 70 players and ties.
