Six months after the championship began, the 62nd Senior Amateur Championship continued on Monday at Lago Mar Country Club with the second round.

Miles McConnell, who held a share of the lead at 1-under to start the day, fired a 4-under 68 to take a three-shot lead after 36 holes.

The Tampa native got off to a rocky start with a double bogey on the third hole but turned it around quickly. McConnell, the reigning Senior Player of the Year, carded three straight birdies on Nos. 4-6 and close out the front nine with a birdie to make the turn at 2-under for the day.

He kept it rolling on the back nine, birdieing three of the first five holes, and finished the day with a 4-under 68.

Daniel Owen, who also held a share of the lead at the beginning of the day, used three birdies to post a second-round 1-under 71.

The Ocala native sits three shots back of McConnell at 2-under. Mike McCoy, the 2022 Senior Amateur champion, put together a strong back nine, with three birdies, to card a 2-under 70 and sit in a tie with Owen at 2-under.

After the first round was completed in early April, a historic flash flood event occurred in the Fort Lauderdale area, where there was 25 inches of rain within a two-day period causing play at the the Senior Amateur Championship to be suspended for 187 days.

McConnell is the reigning FSGA Senior Player of the Year and looks to lock up the honor for the second straight year with a Senior Amateur victory.
