Homa's round today included four birdies and an eagle. When asked how he kept his momentum going into the second round, Homa said, "The course played tougher today than yesterday and I tried to just hang in there and stay patient." He told himself to just not make any big mistakes.

Second place finisher Richard Conlin, a senior at Saint Mary's College who spent the last two months at home in Vancouver relaxing away from the game, shot 69, 68 for a 7-under 137. Conlin made a charge at Homa, posting seven birdies and three bogeys. His birdies at No's. 10, 11 and 12 made Homa take notice as he gained ground and got to within three strokes of the lead. But Homa answered back with eagle at No. 15 and birdie at 16.

Fellow Cal teammate Joel Stalter of Berkeley took third place with 139 (69-70). Stalter had four birdies and an eagle through 15 holes but took a triple at the 16th and a double at 17 to end his chances of catching Homa.

Low round of the day went to Jeffrey Hamm of Danville, with a 67. The previous weekend at the Alister MacKenzie Cup at Pasatiempo Hamm lit up the closing 9th hole, and he went from 2-behind to winning by a single shot, with a double eagle.

Thirteenth-ranked Division I Cal is well warmed up heading into the busy Spring season. Adding to their two wins in California with amateurgolf.com was Brandon Hagy's win in one of the Golfweek/amateurgolf.com "majors" - the New Year's Invitational. Hagy made an eagle on the last hole to win that one.

SENIOR DIVISION - BOYNS FIRST WIN STOPPED BY KNOLL

A playoff was needed in the senior division to crown the champion. Both Casey Boyns of Pacific Grove and Jim Knoll of Sunnyvale posted rounds of 68-78. Knoll won the first hole of the playoff with an up and down par.

NET AND WOMEN'S DIVISIONS

Bryan Beaver of Brentwood won the Net Division with a 147 (71-76) over Joseph Cho of Monterey with a 150 (74-76.) Third place went to Frank Borges of Modesto with a two day 153 (78-75.)

The Women's Division was won by first round leader Tiffany Nichols of Castro Valley with 151 (71-80.) Her steady play was interrupted by a very uncharacteristic triple bogey 5-putt at the par three number 5 and bogeys at 6 and 7. This opened the door for the challengers.

By No. 6, the 15th of their back-nine started round, Lynne Cowan was two strokes ahead of Nichols. Cowan's lead was short-lived though as she found two water hazards and scored a nine on the par four 8th. With solid pars at the final two holes Nichols cruised to a two stroke victory over fellow San Jose State teammate Jennifer Brumbaugh of Scotts Valley, who shot 153 (73-80). Cowan took third with a 154, (72-82). Stephanie Gibri of Sunnyvale, another player on the San Jose State team, was fourth with 161 (78-83.)
