The former newspaper editor at the San Francisco Chronicle and Baltimore Sun has turned his passion for storytelling into two excellent golf books that would be great gifts for a golf lover in your life. “Monarch of the Green” details Young Tom Morris’ life as the golf’s first superstar.
Most recently, the Long Golden Afternoon dives into how the game grew beyond the borders of Scotland in the late 19th century. For the sake of this podcast, The Long Golden Afternoon highlights how the amateur game exploded due to the skill of players like Englishman John Ball who won rocked the professionals when he conquered the the 1890 Open Championship as an amateur and began a rivalry between Scotland and England.
