AGC Two Man Links: Final Results
Net Champions Rich and Mark McDaniel
Net Champions Rich and Mark McDaniel

BANDON, Oregon (April 18, 2016) -- The 15th annual Two Man Links concluded Monday at Bandon Dunes golf course.

For the third time in four years, the duo of Sherman Haggerty and Ben Whipple captured the Senior division. Haggerty/Whipple fired a final round 70 after opening 71, 65 for a three shot victory. John O'Connor and James Schrempf finished runnerup but an ace on the 2nd hole by O'Connnor surely gave the pair a lasting memory. Another highlight of the day came from Stephen Friend who holed his 8-iron on the opening hole for an eagle two. No word on whether his partner Bob Forster picked up after witnessing that early feat.

Mark and Richard McDaniel captured the Net division, a result that was inevitable after the pair shot a 59 at Pacific Dunes in the 2nd round. Their final round 69 gave them a six-shot victory over Griggs/Zacks who did their best to make a charge with a closing 65.

The Championship division was taken by Trey Coker and Matt Koury of Lousiana after rounds of 71, 70, and 71.

ROUND TWO STORY

Today players moved to one of the "field favorites" at Bandon Dunes Resort, the Pacific Dunes golf course. With benign scoring conditions (and a day that had half the field wearing shorts, a rarity on the Oregon Coast) most teams were able to go lower.

One of those teams, Richard and Marc McDaniel of San Diego had what they called a "ridiculous" round, with putts falling from everywhere, and even the occasional bladed chip shot hitting the right mound, running like a putt, and almost going in for birdie (instead of bounding over the green). At the end of the day, the McDaniels' tally of 12-under 59 pushed them into an almost insurmountable 10 stroke lead in their division.

The Seniors are a big tighter, with Sherman Haggerty (California) and Ben Whipple (South Carolina) posting the round of the day, a 6-under 65 gross best ball. They stand three strokes in front of John O'Connor and James Schrempf from Arizona at 134.

Matt Koury got the shot of the day in the Championship Division and it pushed he and partner Trey Kemp back to red numbers for the tournament. His 100 foot putt from off the green on No. 17 had to pass a mound, take a left and gently feed to the hole. Pin or no pin, this one was in the center of the cup. Koury and Kemp are tied with Pete Davison (Connecticut) and Pete Wlodkowski at 141.

BANDON, Oregon (April 16, 2016) -- Two teams jumped out to early leads in the Net and Senior divisions of the Two Man Links Championship today at Bandon Trails, both firing rounds of 5-under 66.

In the Net Division, it was brothers Rich and Mark McDaniel from San Diego finding Bandon Trails to their liking, despite bogeying the first three holes. They played the rest of the way in at 8-under and hope to continue where they left off tomorrow at Pacific Dunes.

The McDaniels are trailed by Andrew Zacks of San Francisco and partner Reggie Greggs of Oakland (68) and fellow Sequoyah Country Club members, father/son team Charles and Mason Mazzola (70).

In the Senior Division, John O'Connor of Fountain Hills, Arizona and James Schrempf of Scottsdale fired 66 to set the pace over perennial contenders (and often champs) of the senior division Sherman Haggerty and Ben Whipple (69).

The Championship division is led by Trey Coker and Matt Koury of Lousiana, who fired even par 71.

As always, it's good to be back at Bandon Dunes, especially to celebrate the 15th playing of this event.
