Following
Scott Raber's triumph at the Christmas Classic last weekend at Del Monte Golf Course, AmateurGolf.com's Winter Series heads Aviara Golf Club in Carlsbad, Calif. next Monday for the San Diego Amateur (North).
It will be the first of two stops for the Winter Series in the San Diego area. Due to the immense popularity of the Winter Series in "America's Finest City," a second San Diego Amateur (South) was added at San Diego Country Club in Chula Vista, Jan. 10-11.
The Aviara Golf Club in Carlsbad is the San Diego area’s only golf course designed by Arnold Palmer. It has been named the No. 1 golf resort in Southern California by the readers of Condé Nast Traveler, and has also been recognized as one of the country’s best resort golf courses by Golf Digest and Golf Magazine. It also serves as the home to the LPGA's Kia Classic played in March.
Last year, Easton Phillips of Coronado rebounded from a triple bogey on the final hole of regulation to win the title on the second playoff hole over Christian Schrodt of Mission Viejo.

Silicon Valley Amateur; Jan. 8-9; Baylands Golf Links; Palo Alto, Calif.
The Silicon Valley Amateur is the first AmateurGolf.com tournament to have, on its past winner's list, a MAJOR champion. That would be Collin Morikawa, who won the 2016 title. Just over 4 years later, he won the PGA Championship just up the road at TPC Harding Park in San Francisco.
2021 marked the announcement of Baylands Golf Links as the tournament's new host venue. And wow, did players enjoy it. Its location in Palo Alto is fitting -- as the original garage where Hewlett Packard was founded is located there, and today's biggest tech companies dot the area map like the Canadian Geese on the fairways and wetlands near Baylands in the winter. Like Corica Park in Alameda, Baylands was recently completely redesigned as a new course from the dirt up, under the hand of architect Forrest Richardson, and the results are stunning.

San Diego Amateur (South); Jan. 10-11; San Diego Country Club; Chula Vista, Calif.
The San Diego Amateur now has a second location, the historic San Diego Country Club. Players will be treated to a very walkable private club that has hosted USGA and major collegiate events, and where legends like Billy Casper and Mickey Wright called home.
Your entry fee includes two rounds of golf (carts optional at player's expense), prizes, trophies for division winners, and the opportunity to play two days at an exclusive private club in a competitive setting. The San Diego Amateur is expected to become part of the SCGA player rankings.

Pacific Grove City Championships; Feb. 19-20; Pacific Grove (Calif.) Golf Links
New event (started in 2021) at the wonderful Pacific Grove Golf Links, known to many as "The Poor Man's Pebble Beach." That's because the back nine plays right along the Pacific Ocean in an out-and-back links-style layout. If you haven't played this Monterey Peninsula gem, entering this tournament with a friend or relative is the perfect way to experience it.
Defending Champion: Brett Thawley
